The end of Daylight Savings brought some songs about time, time, time. Then it was all about the vaunted “last song from The Beatles,” the cobbled-together “Here and Now.” You’ve heard the finished product, but what about the other version from a Seattle band that came out a couple months ago? Plus songs titled “Now and Then” from the Beatles-inspired Shoes, contemporaries The Kinks and ex-Bangle Susannah Hoffs, among others.
Friday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony brought highlights from honorees Chaka Khan, Al Kooper and Link Wray as well as a few of the inductees — Kate Bush, The Spinners, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine.
Then it was a salute to Adolphe Sax, born this day in 1814, and his enduring invention the saxophone, as played by Lee Fields, Junior Walker, John Coltrane, Moondog and others. Finally, birthday tributes to Guy Clark and Doug Sahm – both of whom were born this day in 1941 — and to John Philip Sousa, born this day in Washington D.C. in 1854, who went on to invent his own instrument, the sousaphone. We marked the date by playing the oldest song in CygnusRadio history — from 1890.
