
The weirdly formatted Capital Radio this week was due to my own miscalculations about the American justice system. That is to say, I didn’t think I’d get picked for jury duty. Therefore, the usual 1 o’clock show was delayed by five hours and cut in half by a previously scheduled program.
Still, it was fun to do an evening show, the first part of which was about recent passings: rocker Rick Derringer, “The Simpsons” composer Alf Clausen, and Gambian kora player Foday Musa Suso. Then it was time to mark the birthdays of Charlie Watts, Jimmy Jones, Tom Hadley of Spandau Ballet, Michael Steele of The Bangles and Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes.
The second half of the show was entirely drug songs, owing to recent reports about Elon Musk’s indulgences.
