Here’s the rare Capital Radio show that was recorded but never played (at its regular time). So here it is a day late, belatedly celebrating what would have been the 124th birthday of baseball great Satchel Paige, the Negro League and MLB pitcher who is remembered not only for his five-decade-long career but for his motto, “Don’t look back, something may be gaining on you.”
But yes, it was also the 85th (!) birthday of the still very active (and touring!) Ringo Starr, so we begin with nearly an hour of his joyful work. We also noted the birthdays (uh, yesterday) of Joe Zawinul, Mary Ford, Charlie Louvin, Pinetop Perkins and Jim Rodford. And, taking advice of Satchel, we stopped looking back so much and played nearly a dozen songs just out this year.
