
It was Columbus Day in some of the country and Indigenous Peoples’ Day in other parts, including mine. And we had the songs to enable them to duke it out on Capital Radio today (the Native Americans won).
We began with a salute to John Lodge of the Moody Blues, who died last week at 82. We paid brief tribute, too, to Diane Keaton, who was a sometimes singer in addition to being an actress (in her first Broadway role, she sang with the original cast of “Hair”).
Paul Simon, who once played a record producer who was going to sign Keaton’s character in “Annie Hall,” was turning 84, so we had nearly a dozen of his best songs. Birthdays were also noted for Chris Farlowe, Dorothy Moore, Ray Brown, John Ford Coley, Robert Lamm, Anita Kerr, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and two of the Sylvers.
