A year after Bob Dylan issued his book “Philosophy of Modern Song” that mused on dozens of songs over the years, Jeff Tweedy takes a similar stab with his new “World Within a Song: Music That Changed My Life, and Life that Changed my Music.”
We played about half of 50 songs Tweedy wrote about on today’s edition of Capital Radio, with some variations of what he probably intended, including The Feelies’ live version of the Velvet Underground’s “Who Loves the Sun,” released last month; the Four Seasons’ hilarious version of Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice” (released under a pseudonym); Dion’s take on Joni Mitchell’s “Both Side Now” and Van Morrison’s version of “You Are My Sunshine,” just out this month. And one came from Tweedy himself as part of Uncle Tupelo.
Started with some songs of soldiers because of Veterans Day (which was not a Monday holiday this year because it landed on Saturday). And we celebrated the birthdays of Terry Reid, who turns 74 today; John Hammond (81), Baby Washington (83), Ray Wylie Hubbard (77) and Stax guitarist Bobby Manuel (78) as well as Timmy Thomas, born this day in 1944.
