Capital Radio 11-4: Elections and The Q

News this morning of the death of the Quincy Jones at 91 had us scrambling to find a handful of his tracks showing the breadth of his work over the decades. But there were some other recent passings to note, too, from figures ranging from Phil Lesh to Jack Jones and Barbara Dane.

Today’s birthday salutes included Pretenders guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, Chris Difford of Squeeze, Delbert McClinton and Gregory Porter. Then it was time to devote most of the program to music aobut voting, decisions, choices, faith, hope and sometimes bad dreams. But also songs about the leadership of women from 1916 to 2024, with King Radio’s “Man Smart, Woman Smarter” from 1936 right in the middle.
