Our St. Patrick’s Day show started with a half dozen songs about the four-leaf clover — and none about the shamrock, although it came up in the 28 other songs for Ireland, which this year seemed to concentrate on the cities: Galway, Derry and of course Dublin. But also County Hell, which came up in one of seven songs from The Pogues to set the stage.
One of those Pogues songs came during the birthday salutes — their version of a song by John Sebastian, turning 81 today. Also blew out candles for Nat King Cole, Paul Kantner, Dick Curless and Adam Wade.
There were also a half dozen tracks to remember the 15th anniversary of the death of Alex Chilton at the age of 59.
