Capital Radio recognized another D.C. institution, the Library of Congress, by playing most of the selections of its latest additions to the National Recording Registry, which included Brother Bones, Thelma Houston, Tracy Chapman, Amy Winehouse and Freddy Fender.
We also ruminated on the dreaded 100 Days as well as other collections of 24 hour periods, from Elvis’ “Twenty Days and Twenty Nights” to Muddy Waters’ “Forty Days and Forty Nights.”
The episode also celebrated the birthdays of journeyman keyboardist Chuck Leavell, turning 73, and Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, 72. And we began by paying tribute to Pere Ubu wildman David Thomas, who died last week at 71 and British producer Roy Thomas Baker, who died earlier this month at 78. (Here’s a review I did of Pere Ubu last time I saw them, in 2017).
