Capital Radio 6-23: Sweltering Summertime

We began with a salute to Lou Christie, who died last week at 82. Then it was an onslaught of summer, which itself came a day early this year and immediately hit the gas and hit a 101 heat index down here.

After two dozen summer songs, there were birthdays to note, from Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter (who also collaborated with Dylan) to early Beatles bassist Stu Sutcliffe, Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley (turning 63) and Alan Vega of Suicide. And there were nine songs of a variety of artists from Billie Holiday to Willie Nelson, to showcase bassist Milt Hinton, born this day in 1908.
