We remembered a number of artists who’ve died in recent weeks, with retrospecitves of the underrated Terry Reid, who died Aug. 4 at 75; Derek and the Dominos co-founder Bobby Whitlock, who died Aug. 10 at 77; and Tex Mex ace Flaco Jiménez, who died July 31 at 86. Also noted: the passing of country’s Jeannie Seely, Latin bandleader Eddie Palmieri, hip hop producer Howie Tee and theater director Robert Wilson.
There was music of Iceland and Norway, where I recently traveled, and birthdays to note for Marvin Isley, Maxine Brown, Everlasting, and Sonny Til, among others.
Closed by briefly commemorating the 19th amendment guaranteeing the women’s vote, 105 years ago today.
