Capital Radio 9-8: You Know What I Mean

The death of Mark Volman Friday at 78 brought an hour of his music on Capital Radio this week, with The Turtles, Flo & Eddie, Frank Zappa, T. Rex, the Boss, the Ramones and others. But we also paid tribute to Bruce Loose of Flipper, Rick Davies of Supertramp and Tom Shipley of Brewer & Shipley, among others. 

It would have been the 80th birthday of Ron “Pigpen” McKernan of the Grateful Dead (if he hadn’t died at 27), so we heard some of the songs he sung with them, but also celebrated many more birthdays: of Jimmie Rodgers, Zachary Richard, Patsy Cline, songwriter Harlan Howard, Neko Case, Benjamin Orr of The Cars and Aimee Mann, among others.

Ended on an angry note of defiance, based on the occupation of my city and the direction of the country with new songs from Neil Young and Tom Paxton and more.
